[UPDATE: Kevin Church is back for this Friday, April 6, 2012. Read more below and come over at 10pm this Friday for his live performance and some Midnight Sushi drinks, fun, and food!]
Along his journey, Kevin Church has continued to hone his songwriting skills to the point that now he is performing to an ever-growing audience that is amazed by his lyrical content as well as his haunting melodies that capture everyday life in a unique way.
In March of 2009, Church released “Let It Begin,” an all-acoustic montage that brought the listener into his inner being, with songs ranging from “Cold Rain,” a strongly presented lament to the plaintive “Your Man,” a sweet, honest portrayal of love, and finishing with “Best I Ever Had,” a rocking tune that always brings his audiences to their feet. In May of 2009, Kevin won the Muddy Waters Song Writing Acoustic Challenge in Charleston, SC. This was a testament to his continuing growth as a songwriter and performer. This growth opened the door for him to perform over two hundred shows in the Charleston area in 2010, as well as performing in the Carolinas, GA and TN.
To celebrate this continuing growth, Kevin released his second album, “A Little Change,” in August of 2010. He shows his maturation as a songwriter, and also highlights his musical prowess as he rocks on both acoustic and electric guitar, adds some organ, and also plays his amazing harmonica. Each song is a work unto itself, with none of the songs reminiscent of the others. The title track “A Little Change” is a look at the current situation our economy has placed many of us in, while “New River Shore” is a spiritual tale of undying love. The resounding “DC Town Blues” goes beyond political turmoil to the roots of a perennial battle between East and West and our world’s major religions. The haunting melody and lyrics of “Morristown” bring home the reality of life on the road and “Man to Crawl” is a happy, in-your-face tune that is a statement to the world around us.
After listening to “Man to Crawl,” Scott Lindy of Clear Channel Radio said:
Great songs are supposed to take you somewhere in your mind. Kevin will take you places you forgot you knew so much about.
This succinctly describes Kevin’s lyrical depth. With a style that may be described as “worldly innocent,” he lays out the good and bad parts of life, with no sense of disillusionment or chagrin in facing what is there. A sense of honesty and integrity shows through the positive approach to both the good and bad.
Listen to and watch Kevin perform LIVE this Friday, March 9, 2012 at Bushido’s Midnight Sushi. Starts 10pm with drink specials, select hibachi entrees, and half-priced sushi menu.
